Ruben Vinagre tells Everton fans what to expect and addresses Vitalii Mykolenko competition

Ruben Vinagre has told Everton fans what to expect from him after his season-long loan signing was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

The left-back has become the club's second arrival of the summer, coming to Goodison Park temporarily from Sporting CP. That follows James Tarkowski making the move to Merseyside earlier this month following the expiry of his contract at Burnley.

The 23-year-old has already commented on what Evertonians should expect from him following his arrival. Vinagre hopes he can help bring a winning mentality to the Blues, and explained that he is looking to grow further upon his return to the Premier League.

He told EvertonTV: "I'm a player who gives everything for his team-mates, for the team. I always want to win, I think it's the way everybody has to think!

"I've come to Everton to win. That's my characteristics.

"I'm good with the ball, I like to have the ball, I like to attack and put the team in front of the goal. But I also like to recover the ball.

"I like to play football, everything in the game! I started young here [in the Premier League], I think I learned a lot when I was young here. I'm very glad to be back in England, because I think I'll really improve myself here again."

Vinagre will look to be challenging Vitalii Mykolenko for a place in the starting line-up throughout the 2022/23 campaign. The Ukraine international has been in a fine run of form across recent months, and has brought that into his pre-season performances too.

And Everton's new signing believes that competition can only bring the best out of the pair during the coming season.

"I think it's very good for me and for him, we have to improve and to work every day for the place," Vinagre added.

"He's good. When you have very good players work with you, it's better for you."

The defender also highlighted a number of factors as being behind his decision to move to Merseyside - most notably mentioning the impacts of Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Kevin Thewell.

The latter particularly has worked with Vinagre in the past at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and has explained to the loan signing that he must give his all if he is to convince Everton fans.

He remarked: "It's a very big opportunity. He's [Lampard] a football legend, everybody knows him, and the opportunity to work and learn with him is very good for me.

"He's [Cole] an example, one of the biggest left-backs in the world. It's an opportunity to learn with him, and it's very good for me.

"Kevin is important for me to come here, because he's a person that knows me very well and worked with me at Wolves for a long time.

"Kevin explained to me that Everton is a very big club, an club that wants to make a difference and continue their history. Already they have a very good history, and he told me you have to give everything to Everton for the supporters."
