Ruben Neves reveals future transfer plan amid Arsenal centre midfield search

Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has been linked with a move to Arsenal on multiple occasions over the last few years. The Gunners aren't alone, with many other of Europe's elite clubs linked with the Portuguese who former Wolves boss Bruno Lage claimed is worth £100 million.

"When you have that player, the best thing to do is improve his salary and years of contract," Lage told Birmingham Live. "But who knows, when you have a top player like him in that specific position, that can defend and attack, and is a top professional and a great man, the big teams are there with £100million to buy these kinds of players."

Neves' deal at Molineux expires in the summer of 2024 and his name could start being mentioned again among Gunners fans with Arsenal in need of a midfielder. Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have had excellent starts to the season, but Mohamed Elneny is nursing a long-term injury, while Albert Sambi Lokonga has struggled for game time since arriving in north London.

Douglas Luiz was Arsenal's number one midfield target in the latter stages of the summer window, although that deal now appears to be dead after the Brazilian recently signed a new deal at Aston Villa. Meanwhile, the likes of Youri Tielemans and Manuel Locatelli have also been linked with January moves.

Neves has recently spoken out about his future - and there is one club who he's revealed he'd like to play for. The 25-year-old wants to return to FC Porto - the club Wolves signed him from - hinting that he wants to go back to Portugal while he's still at the peak of his game.

"Returning to FC Porto is something I really want to happen, but it's impossible to say when," Neves told Ojogo. "I hope I'm in the best condition and that they still want me. I want to come back with the feeling of helping and not ending my career.

"I want to return to FC Porto knowing that I can help and win titles. The age? I don't know how I'll be in a few years, but my goal is not to go to FC Porto to finish my career, but to win titles. I was there for three years and I didn't win."
