Ruben Neves mocks Nottingham Forest as Wolves group chat message revealed

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Rúben Neves took to social media to proclaim that 'playtime is over' after scoring the winner against Nottingham Forest at Molineux from the penalty spot.

The 25-year-old was responding to a now deleted pre-match social media post from Forest's official accounts which mocked up striker Emmanuel Dennis playing with three wolf cubs accompanied by the caption 'playtime'. Wolves hit back with their own graphic depicting a chopped-down tree and the match-winner has now posted his own mocked-up image.

Neves is shown in the graphic beckoning forward with his hands surrounded by three Wolves, with the caption 'playtime is over'. The club's interim head coach Steve Davis also revealed that the player had picked up the post before kick-off and sought to use it as added motivation.

Asked about the now infamous tweet, Davis told BirminghamLive : “We were aware of it. We were going to use it in the talk, but I spoke to Ruben and he said he’d already put it on the players’ chat. If you can’t get motivated as a player then you shouldn’t be doing it, but it did give us a bit more of an edge putting something like that out.

“Those sorts of things used to happen on the pitch. Social media has taken over now I guess.”
