Players tipped to sign for Manchester United on transfer deadline day

Manchester United have enjoyed a summer transfer window to remember, although supporters will be hoping for one final delve into the market on deadline day.

The signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have sparked excitement at Old Trafford, with the trio adding quality and experience to the first-team squad.

However, United do still look a little light in central midfield - although MEN Sport understands a new midfielder is highly unlikely.

Despite that, bookmakers have United high in the market in the betting for some midfield options. Here are a couple of players the Red Devils are favourites to sign.

Ruben Neves, Wolverhampton Wanderers

The Wolverhampton Wanderers star was involved in a controversial moment during United's 1-0 win at Molineux on Sunday and his reaction to Paul Pogba's tackle - which was deemed not to be a foul in the buildup to Mason Greenwood's winning goal after a VAR review - prompted some ire from Reds fans.

All would surely be forgiven if Neves was to make the switch to United on deadline day, though.

The former Porto man is a high-class operator, able to sit deep in midfield and dictate the tempo of matches with his precise passing range.

With the Portugal international 2/1 to become a United player before the transfer window closes, the bookmakers do seem to think there is a chance that this one comes off - but don't hold your breath!

Declan Rice, West Ham United

Rice has developed into a key figure for both West Ham United and England, so it's no surprise that some of the Premier League's biggest clubs are casting an admiring glance over him.

Chelsea were linked last summer, while in this window the Red Devils are also said to have been interested in the midfield enforcer. However, it is believed that West Ham's massive valuation of Rice has put off United making a move.

With that in mind, not to mention West Ham's strong start to the season, it would be a shock if the 22-year-old was to leave east London before the window closes.

Nevertheless, the bookmakers think that if any team is to prise Rice away from his boyhood club then it will be the Reds; they are 3/1 favourites to sign him, with Chelsea adrift in the market at 8/1.
