Ruben Loftus-Cheek's first words after signing new deal will delight Chelsea fans

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has stated that he wants be a 'key player' for Chelsea in the future having signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The 23-year-old has come through the academy and is a fans favourite at Stamford Bridge, working his way into Maurizio Sarri's plans towards the end of last season.

The midfielder has struggled with injuries, particularly with a back problem, however netted six Premier League goals and was a big part of the Blues getting to the Europa League final.

However, Loftus-Cheek was unable to play in Baku having ruptured his Achilles' tendon in a post-season friendly against New England Revolution.

The midfielder is set to miss the start of the campaign as he recovers from the injury, but under Frank Lampard he is set to excel in the midfield position.

And Loftus-Cheek is hoping to be one of the most important members of the squad

"I’m really happy and pleased that I get to stay here for another five years. It’s the place where I’ve grown up playing and hopefully I’ll be playing here for a lot longer," Loftus-Cheek said .

"At eight or nine years old, of course you never think you’ll be here for so long because you just want to enjoy yourself and play with your friends.

"When I look back and see how the hard work has paid off, it’s a good feeling. That only makes me want to work harder to achieve more in the future.

"I hope to win a lot more trophies with the team and personally it’s just about trying to do as well as I can and work hard to be a key player for Chelsea."
