Ruben Amorim Reveals Man Utd Double Injury Boost for Chelsea Clash

For once, Ruben Amorim had some good news to offer Manchester United fans. Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount are both set to return for Saturday’s increasingly crucial Premier League bout with Chelsea.

There hasn’t been much cheer around Old Trafford of late. Three defeats from the first five games of the new season, a Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier opposition and the immediate change of fortunes for seemingly every player to leave United has created a rather gloomy atmosphere. Amorim’s failure to hide his open despair has reportedly come under fire from some at the club.

The Portuguese boss struck a far more upbeat tone in Friday’s press conference ahead of the impending visit from Chelsea. Comfortable joking about his face-to-face meeting with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Amorim revealed that his squad has been boosted by a return to fitness for Cunha and Mount.

The two versatile forwards both picked up knocks in the first half of United’s only win this season. The September international break which immediately followed that 3–2 victory over Burnley afforded the pair more recovery time, although neither was fit enough for last weekend’s galling 3–0 loss to Manchester City.

Amorim was quick to reveal that both would be in the squad for Saturday evening’s meeting with Chelsea, a fact which made him “really happy.”

Diogo Dalot remains sidelined with a muscular complaint and long-term absentee Lisandro Martínez isn’t quite back just yet. The latest reports suggest that the Argentine World Cup winner is targeting a return at the end of October after sitting out seven months with an ACL tear.

The front-foot centre back has been a key absentee for Amorim who was again keen to lament his loss. “We missed Licha a lot,” the Portuguese boss sighed. “Especially in this moment, we miss his aggression, how aggressive he is in everything he does.

“We miss him but he’s always there in every meeting and we need him in this team.”
