Ruben Amorim confirms contrast to Chelsea policy as forgotten £13m signing restored to Manchester United squad

Ruben Amorim has confirmed Tyrell Malacia is being reintegrated into the Manchester United squad.

Malacia is somewhat of a forgotten man at Old Trafford having not featured for the club since being substituted at half-time of the Europa League win over FCSB back in January.

The Dutchman, who joined United from Feyenoord for £13million in July 2022, was subsequently sent out on loan to PSV Eindhoven for the second half of last season and made 12 appearances across all competitions.

Malacia was expected to depart in the summer transfer window amid links to Elche and Turkish outfit Eyupspor.

However, he was the only member of Amorim’s so-called five-man ‘bomb squad’ - including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho - that did not leave.

In a surprise twist, Malacia was named in Man United’s 25-man Premier League squad last week which means he is an option for Amorim at least until the January transfer window opens.

Malacia won’t feature for Man Utd against Chelsea on Saturday, but he is set for a return to first team training as well as game time with the Under-21s to build up his fitness.

Speaking ahead of the Chelsea game, Amorim said: "Tyrell Malacia is returning to contact with team-mates and the ball in the U21s then we'll see."

Man United’s stance on Malacia is in stark contrast to the Blues’ policy.

Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi - two players who also failed to secure moves in the summer transfer window - are still both training away from the Chelsea first team, as part of their own ‘bomb-squad’.

The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) contacted Chelsea this week over their treatment of the duo, but Enzo Maresca has dismissed suggestions of unfair treatment.
