Ruben Amorim confirms contact with Premier League sides amid links with Chelsea job

Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed Premier League clubs have approached him, but insisted he is not looking to make the move to England.

Pep Guardiola recently described Amorim as “one of the best” and hailed the work he had done at Sporting, who beat Tottenham earlier in the season and now face Arsenal in the Europa League last-16.

Amorim has been linked with the Chelsea job, as pressure continues to build on Graham Potter. The Blues are on a run of two wins in 15 matches, sitting tenth in the Premier League table.

Sporting have been disappointing themselves domestically, having won the title two years ago and finished second last season. They are currently fourth and 15 points off league leaders Benfica.

Asked about the possibility of him taking charge of an English club and the comments from Guardiola, Amorim was adamant his full focus was on Sporting and turning the club’s form around.

“Regarding the compliments, of course it’s always good to hear, but my reality goes through white handkerchiefs last week and a season far below what I wanted,” Amorim said, via O Jogo.

“Even linking to the comment that was made, the results dictate everything. What happens around the game does not matter.

“I don’t want to open doors to England. I’ve already had some contacts and I’ve always said and I’ll say again that I’m very happy here.

“What I don’t want is to disappoint my supporters, who last week showed their displeasure with the coach. I don’t want to open other doors.”
