Rubble is dumped just yards from watchdog

SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) has its headquarters in Miller Road, Ayr.

The agency has confirmed it is looking into a case just a few doors down, at the rear of the former Elms Court Hotel.

The rear of the property has become strewn with building rubble including bricks, mortar, household rubbish and other materials.

Some observers say there is as much as 50 tonnes of waste lying at the site, including what appears to be an abandoned car.

But Sepa said it is looking into the matter, in conjunction with the landowner.

A spokesman said: “Every day we work to protect and enhance Scotland’s environment.

“ We are aware of waste deposits at 21/23 Miller Road and are currently carrying out an investigation into this.

“We have attended the premises and are working to actively engage with the landowner.

“We would advise members of the public who witness fly tipping or wish to report a waste offence to contact Dumb Dumpers Stopline on 0845 2 30 40 90.”

A council spokesman said: “When the fly tipping was spotted we alerted SEPA and we are assisting with their investigation.”
