RTE is set to air a brand new documentary about the career of legendary Irish singer Christy Moore.
Christy’s Life On the Road will offer an up-close and rare inside look at the music icon’s private backstage world, building up to his onstage performances.
The film is being made by the award-winning production company Bang Bang Teo and it features footage that was captured by their crew as they spent six months on the road with the folk legend.
The time they spent filming resulted in two one-hour films for RTÉ called Christy Moore: Journey.
The documentary features extra footage from Christy Moore: Journey, which was previously unused, and a host of clips that were shot intentionally for Christy's Life on the Road.
In terms of its narrative and the aesthetic, the film features Moore’s five favourite venues, including the Marquee in Cork, and what he refers to as his ‘headquarters’ in Lisdoonvarna.
There are also interviews with his band and members of his road crew who have been with him for years.
The synopsis states: "Christy’s Life On the Road gives a unique insight into Christy Moore’s protected backstage world, where he immerses himself in the music each time before going onstage.
"In the midst of a pandemic, when live performers are truly suffering, the screening of this film is particularly timely; it is real evidence of everything that is sorely missed by so many musicians and the rewards both they and their audiences experience from live performance."
Christy’s Life On the Road airs at 9.30pm on RTE One on August 18.
