RTE viewers were amazed by one contestant on Ireland's Fittest Family

RTE viewers were amazed by young contestant Ruth Allen and her performance on Ireland's Fittest Family on Sunday evening.

The latest episode of the show saw coach Anna Geary become the first eliminated from this year’s series.

Geary's Meath family went up against Derval O’Rourke's two teams – the O’Rourkes from Galway and the Kulczynskis from Clare as well as Donncha O’Callaghan’s Allens from Tipperary.

The nail-biting quarter eliminating challenge saw Ruth do the Pontoon of Pain along with her brother, James.

Their other brother, Tom, was sick and couldn't compete.

Tough Ruth wasn't shaken by the change and helped get her family up from last to third.

Derval said: "She was brilliant. She was tough as nails."

Ann Geary added: "She was excellent."

Her family's coach Donncha said: "I know it's wrong and totally un-Irish to celebrate third place but I was delighted with that, especially Ruthr's performance.

"She made up unbelievable ground, she found different ways to do things, the balance beam, thinking differently shows it can pay off.

"I know it's only one point but to get us into third place there I'm delighted with her."

Viewers posted on social media about her display.

One said: "Ireland's Fittest family Ruth Allen, unreal effort, brilliant performance."

Another said: "Oh my god, Ruths performance there?? 10/10 amazing. I'm crying."

One added: "Serious effort from Ruth Allen, it's not over till its over ."

Ruth was pleased herself: said: "I'm delighted. It was very very tricky hopping over the beam and I saw James fall off many times.

"I actually thought we had no hope but obviously I just had to keep going and not give up and that's what I did."
