RTE viewers shocked as Eastenders star reveals she is a ‘massive’ fan of Daniel O’Donnell

RTE viewers were left shocked at one surprise guest who made an appearance at Daniel O’Donnell’s 60th birthday celebrations on the Late Late Show.

The popular country crooner celebrated his 40-year career with a host of musical guests on the Friday night show.

However, viewers spotted one unexpected guest from EastEnders in the audience who had flown over from London to be there.

EastEnders star Shona McGarty, who plays Whitney Dean in the BBC soap, appeared at the celebrations to say a few words about her unlikely friendship with Daniel.

The actress, 30, who is of Irish descent, revealed how she is a huge fan of the country singer and even sang at one of his shows in London.

“Me and Brian [Conley] were having a conversation one day on set and I was saying what a massive fan of Daniel I am,” she said. “I had all his albums on my phone and grew up listening to his music.

“And Brian said why don’t I speak to Gloria Huniford and see if I can get in contact. I said “No, it would never happen,” and then it happened.”

She then revealed that she went on to sing with Daniel O’Donnell at his show in Croydon, in London.

Daniel said she “took the house down” as Shona revealed she sang Crazy by Patsy Cline Memory from the musical Cats.

People took to Twitter to express their surprise, saying: "Whitney from Eastenders being in the audience for Daniel O’Donnell’s 60th birthday on the late late show is one of the most random things I’ve ever seen #LateLateShow"

Another said: "Whitney fan-girling our wee Daniel us just wild!"

Someone else added: "Whitney from Eastenders? That was unexpected."
