Damien Duff was the talk of Twitter last night after a typically ‘Irish’ comment he made while carrying out his punditry duties on RTE.
The ex-footballer has been a regular on the national broadcaster's coverage of the Euros and has become a fan-favourite among viewers over the years.
On Sunday, Damien was joined on the panel for the Netherlands V Czech Republic match on RTE by Kevin Doyle, Karen Duggan, and presenter, Tony O’Donoghue.
Ahead of the match start, Damien hilariously said: "I want this match to finish after 90 minutes because I'm rushing off to meet me da for a pint."
Viewers of the show quickly took to Twitter to hail Duff for his off-topic comment with one person calling him “a breath of fresh air”, and a “top bloke”.
One viewer wrote; “Damien Duff really has been the breakout star of #Euro2020.”
Another posted a picture of a cheering crowd meme and wrote: “Everyone in Ireland waiting to go for a pint with #DamienDuff & his dad for the #BELPOR game.”
A third recommended to another user; “Get on the Irish coverage, Damien Duff just said he hoped it wouldn’t go to extra time coz he promised his oul lad he’d meet him for a pint.”
After the match - which finished in 90 minutes exactly - Balls.ie wrote on their Twitter: “There is no person happier about this scoreline than Damien Duff.
“He will make it in time to meet his auld lad for a pint after all #EURO2020.”
