RTE viewers left tearful after watching Brendan Grace Thanks for the Memories

Brendan Grace fans were left tearful as the late entertainer's documentary aired on Monday night.

Emotional footage from Brendan Grace - Thanks for the Memories showed the legendary comic preparing to put on a variety show with the Forget-Me-Nots community choir for dementia sufferers.

It showed Brendan getting ready to take to the Olympia stage for a one-off performance.

The first episode of the three-part series saw the Liberties native being joined by Foster and Allen while members of the Forget-Me-Nots told their stories.

A particularly poignant clip shows Brendan in his hospital bed in Galway just three days before he passed away.

Despite his illness, the entertainer keeps his upbeat, saying said: “Hiya folks, this is Brendan Grace here, not as well as I usually am.”

His devoted fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts last night.

One said: "Our office is feeling inspired today after watching #BrendanGrace #thanksforthememories.

"We tuned in last night to watch the documentary. Such a beautiful programme. "Rest in peace Brendan, a gent through and through."

Another added: "Tuned into #thanksforthememories last night and cried all through it as Mam (almost 90) is suffering from Alzheimers At this stage of her life music is one of her few joys.

"So grateful for the music and thanks #BrendanGrace for a fab programme and the memories."

A third said: "Heartbreaking shot of Brendan Grace from his hospital bed. He died three days later. What a legend."
