RTE launched its new family quiz show, hosted by Jennifer Zamparelli, last night on RTE One with a mixed reaction.
An interesting twist on the game show format, Home Advantage was very aware of the Covid times and had one play from each team in studio while their participating family remained at home - beamed in on a giant screen and called upon at key moments to offer their wisdom.
The premise was interesting enough to grab people’s attention, many liked it, many didn't and plenty took to social media to share their views.
Ed Smith said: "Fair dues to Home Advantage. Good old fashioned quiz show craic that doesn't require a pair of sunglasses and tab of LSD to understand."
One person was confused by the prizes for contestants and especially runners-up: “Loved the new quiz show on RTE Home Advantage but the prize money isn’t great, only €5000 or a bean bag for the runners up."
Some, more sceptical viewers of RTE’s programming, said that it exceeded their expectations. One person said. “ #HomeAdvantage is not as bad as I thought it was going to be #rte.”
Over three frantic brain-teasing rounds on general knowledge questions, the teams competed to qualify for the final round and a shot at the €5,000 jackpot.
One aspect of the show that did seem to resonate positively with viewers and that was the performance given by host Jennifer Zamparelli.
One viewer wrote: “Now just seriously listen here #rte #JenniferZamparelli is a great talent and much better than this game show #homeadvantage. I'm dead serious here. Offer the woman a prime time show and even ask her opinion.”
Zamparelli herself has previously said that she was thrilled to be working on the quiz show.
"I’ve been working with the team and I think it’ll be great fun," she said.
"So, if you and your family would like to have a bit of craic and also be in with a chance to win some cash, we’d love to hear from you!”
