RTE viewers hail 'Le Chéile' documentary charting formation of East Belfast GAA club

RTE viewers thoroughly enjoyed the opening episode of the 'Le Chéile' documentary which aired tonight.

The multi-part series had already had its premiere on the BBC last week but the national broadcaster showing it gave a wider audience south of the border the chance to gain an insight into the early days of the club.

Shot entirely in Irish, it introduced viewers to members from various backgrounds who have found a sporting home at the club.

This is despite the club not yet having its own pitch as it was revealed that they use a council pitch in the south-east part of the city.

However, while they are playing catch-up to other more established clubs, all of their teams appear to have hit the ground running.

The camogie team in particular seem to have immediately picked up the game (granted they do have some members who have played before) as they won their opening five matches.

But the winning and losing of matches was secondary to the overarching theme of the programme which was to show the value of inclusion for all those looking to pursue a sporting outlet.

This was the main sentiment which struck a chord with those watching from their couch.

Darren wrote: "Just watching Le Chéile now, the initiative East Belfast GAA are promoting is just great to see. Sport is for everyone, no matter your religion, upbringing or colour. Uppa Easties."

While Kieran similarly added: "What a fantastic watch @EastBelfastGAA #rte #GaelicGames Le Chéile."

Lastly, Aine said: "Heart warmed seeing the joy and hope and work of all those involved in the @EastBelfastGAA community on #lecheile. So full of admiration of all of you."

You can catch this episode on the RTE Player while next week's episode will air on Monday night at 8 pm.
