RTE viewers glued to Ireland's Fittest Family as celebrities describe 'trauma' of special episode

The celebrity special of Ireland's Fittest Family had RTE viewers glued to their seats - with fans full of praise for

The show has consistently been a ratings hit for the broadcaster, with tonight's celeb special sure to be no different.

Model Grainne Gallanagh, Happy Pear cookery writers David and Stephen Flynn and comedians Sinead Quinlan and Neil Delamere all joined their families to battle for glory and a prize for charity.

The usual fan favourite events returned, as did the gruelling eliminators.

Gráinne was paired with Davy Fitzgerald, Neil with Derval O'Rourke, Sinead Quinlan with Anna Geary leaving the Happy Pear duo with Donncha O'Callaghan.

The Quinlans crashed out after the first round in the swamp but still earned €1,000 for the Cork Simon community.

Neil Delamere was eliminated after a time-trial through Devlil's Creek, leaving the Gallanaghs and the Flynns battling through the final race.

In the end, it was Donncha and the Flynn's to take the €10,000 top prize for Home Tree.

One person tweeted: "Loving all the teams on Ireland's Fittest Family (or "Fit As f**k Families" as I like to call it). I would definitely be the one getting dragged through the bog

A second added: "Me shouting at the contestants to get a move on in #irelandsfittestfamily while I sit on the couch scoffing cheese"

While a third joked: "Don't know if I'd want Davy Fitz chasing me on flat ground, let alone up a ramp"

Grainne said she was “traumatised” for days after taking part.

She said: “It was not just a laugh, of course it was fun, but it was competitive, it was hard and the real challenges they face on fittest families.

“And as soon as we knew what the first challenge was, I was like, ‘Oh my God, no’

“I was still like it is going to be fine, I really didn’t realise how difficult it was going to be.

“It was kind of literally about 10 seconds into the first challenge I thought, ‘Oh no, I know I’ve messed up here’.”
