RTE viewers divided over comedian Emma Doran’s appearance on Late Late Show

RTE viewers were divided in their opinions over one guest’s appearance on Friday night’s Late Late Show.

Comedian and podcaster Emma Doran had viewers in stitches with some of her risqué stories on the chat show.

The mother-of-three from Dublin hosts the You're Grounded podcast with her 20-year-old daughter Ella, as well as And Another Thing with Ireland AM presenter Muireann O'Connell.

On the Late Late Show she recounted how she would manage to get intimate with her partner while she was still living in her parents' attic, using a technique she called “silent riding”.

She explained: “The silent ride is…” and paused as the audience erupted in laughter.

Host Ryan Tubridy replied: “I just feel there is a lot of recognition in the audience. I feel for a lot of people this was a familiar lockdown phenomenon? ”

Emma responded: “There's a lot of people riding in their mam and dad's houses the way the property [market] is going.

“So you’re in bed with your partner and you’re both completely still except for a tiny area.

“And then what you do is… look at me,” she directed Tubridy and requested to act out a back and forth motion with the presenter.

A shocked Tubridy replied: “I'm not having a silent ride with you. I can't believe you've asked me to do this.”

Emma continued: “The great thing about if you're at home in your mam's attic, if you listen carefully you can hear her talking to your dad on the landing.

“She's saying ‘James, that chicken's gone off yesterday, we'll have it for dinner tomorrow’.

“So part of your brain is still in the silent ride, and part of your brain is going ‘oh we’re going to have chicken for dinner tomorrow.”

Some viewers loved the story and took to social media to praise Emma.

One person wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely love your humour. The Silent ride. Classic.”

Another said: “Sooooo funny loved it,” while a third wrote: “You were brilliant!!”

One person wrote on Twitter: “Emma Doran is part of a new generation of Irish comedic talent that is so effortlessly funny.

“We really need to rally and support them in anyway way we can, same as the film industry spotlight we're experiencing right now.”

Another said: “Never heard of Emma before but am looking up tickets for her shows as I tweet #LateLate #LateLateShow”

However, others were not so entertained, which caused her fans to jump to her defence.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Don't judge Emma by one quick chat. She's actually a great storyteller, listen to her podcast. And love her skits. Dry up the half of yiz. #LateLateShow #latelate”
