RTE viewers blown away by young girl born with rare defect as DIY SOS team build dream home

RTE viewers were blown away by a young girl who appeared on screens last night as a team from RTE's DIY SOS joined together to build her family's dream home.

Presenter Baz Ashmawy travelled to Co Clare to meet 13-year-old Isabella (Bella) Mulvey-Sydney who was born with a rare defect.

She lives in Ennis with her family, dad Dea and mum Claire, and her twin brother AJ.

Bella was born with Lumbar Sacral Agenesis and her family chose to have her legs amputated when she was just seven.

This meant her home needed to be adapted to be wheelchair accessible as well as have lower door handles and light switches installed.

Baz and the team of builders, designers and local volunteers joined together to renovate her family home to suit her needs.

And Bella was delighted with the results, comparing her newly renovated room to a "hotel".

She said: "Oh my god, this is lovely. I love it. Aw lads, this is like a hotel."

RTE viewers were left in tears by the renovation as the emotional episode came to an end.

One person wrote on Twitter: "An utter blubbering mess once again. A much needed tonic right now. There will always be great people around when others are going through such horrible times."

A second replied: "Is it even possible to watch without being a blubbering mess?""

A third wrote: "I’m not crying, you’re crying! First time watching this heartwarming tv show on RTÉ1. Very good for the soul to see how kind people are. More of this please!"
