RTE viewers absolutely loved Anne Doyle's chat with Tommy Tiernan

During tonight's Tommy Tiernan Show, the comedian welcomed the wonderful Anne Doyle to the show as the beloved broadcaster chatted about her life, Wexford roots, and why the news means so much to her.

During the conversation, Doyle imparted some knowledge onto Tiernan when chatted about how as she gets older, she values honesty more in people.

Elsewhere, the pair chatted about her on-screen persona and how her aura of sincerity was picked up by viewers at home.

In terms of her career as a journalist, Doyle said that working during The Troubles - particularly the period of the hunger strikes - was one of the most important moments in her career.

Elsewhere during the chat, the two talked about Doyle's romantic life, why she never really wanted to have children, and the sad passing of her mother.

During the conversation, Doyle's advice that "the best thing you can be is your own person" seemed to capture a small reason why she has been a favourite on Irish TV screens for years.

"I miss Anne Doyle. I respect her decision to do as she pleases, but she’s too good not to be on our screens," is what one viewer said while another RTE viewer remarked that "Anne Doyle is truly tantalising, funny and very true to herself. When Anne mentioned the Hunger strikes it brings back memories of when the black flags were flown"

"Love Anne Doyle. Eloquent, independent, not maternal and doesn't need a man. I can relate on some levels. And a bit of of a flirt too," "Anne Doyle is class personified. What an absolute lady. A strong woman with her own mind, so refreshing," and "Anne Doyle is universally loved, remarkably professional, she's just a star" were some of the other comments left.

With so many people missing Doyle on the TV screens, it's telling that other viewers said: "’Anne Doyle is a national treasure, a fond memory of childhood days growing up in Ireland."

We'll leave things with the remark that "Anne Doyle is an icon!!!"

The people of Ireland have spoken.
