Bernadette McAliskey has been hailed as an "inspiration" after a powerful interview with Tommy Tiernan on the comedian's RTE chat show.
The popular series returned for a Christmas special on Monday evening, and while the chats with singer John Spillane and UCC Religion professor Amanullah De Sondy were interesting, viewers were left stunned by the former MP's raw honesty when answering Tommy's questions.
Bernadette (who went to prison while an MP in 1969), had both Tommy and those who tuned in listening to every single word as she spoke about her life and career, how the south of Ireland had let down Northern Irish Catholics and the possibility of the "collapse of Great Britain into the cliffs of Dover".
And people were raving about the civil rights activist on social media in the aftermath of the chat.
One person tweeted: "You could hear a pin drop in the house when Bernadette McAliskey is speaking."
A second added: "Some uncomfortable truths being spoken by Bernadette McAliskey"
Not one person had a bad word to say about McAliskey, who famously slapped Conservative Home Secretary Reginald Maudling the day after Bloody Sunday for refusing to let her speak in the House of Commons.
Another tweet read: "We need more people like Bernadette Devlin McAliskey involved in politics" with others adding "Bernadette McAliskey is a remarkable speaker and tells it as it is. Could listen to her all day." and "You could have had the whole show with Bernadette McAliskey. Brilliant interview"
