RTE to broadcast new live TV racing programmes when action returns next month

RTE will step up live TV racing coverage when action resumes next month.

Irish horse racing returns on June 8 with the resumption of the Flat season following its suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

RTE will show the first Classics of the season at the Curragh with the Irish 2000 Guineas on June 12 and the Irish 1000 Guineas on June 13.

With sports fans starved of live action, new hour-long live racing programmes on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays have also been added to the TV schedule on RTE 2 and the RTE Player online.

The coverage will be presented by Hugh Cahill, with Jane Mangan, Ted Walsh and Ruby Walsh providing analysis.

Coverage on Fridays will run from 7pm to 8pm while Saturdays and Sundays will see live racing coverage run from 5pm to 6pm.

Two races will be shown live each day with the day's earlier races recapped.

Racing is set to be held behind-closed-doors in the coming months - with strict safety rules in place for participants and broadcasters due to Covid-19.

Live Racing Schedule on RTE

Friday June 12, Curragh
Saturday June 13, Curragh
Friday June 19, Gowran Park
Saturday June 20, Naas
Sunday June 21, Leopardstown
Friday June 26, Curragh
Saturday June 27, Curragh (The Irish Derby)
