RTE star Tommy Tiernan 'blown away' by support for podcast as listeners flood hosts with stories

RTE star Tommy Tiernan and his co-hosts Hector Ó hEochagáin and Laurita Blewitt have said the support they have received for the Tommy, Hector and Laurita Podcast has 'blown them away'

The show launched back in August of 2020 and slowly gained a few followers.

But the popularity skyrocketed as the trio told tales about their lives and how they dealt with a number of problems.

The show has ranked in the top five of the Irish podcast charts for every week so far in 2021 - and now the three hosts have thanked the public for their support.

Taking to the show's official Twitter account, they said: "We are absolutely blown away by the messages we are getting on a daily basis about the podcast. The stories you share to the far flung places you listen... It's some podcast gang we're building!! Thank you"

The trio recently launched a new tier for subscribers - allowing them to listen to an extra episode every week alongside their free Thursday pod, as well as making both episodes ad-free and sponsor-free.

A recent episode of the show touched on a sensitive subject.

Laurita mentioned that her nephew was in fifth class and was receiving 'the talk'

"The teacher cannot talk about homosexuality and can't talk about condoms or contraception of any kind because it's a Catholic school. She couldn't talk about it but if they wanted to talk among themselves at 11 years of age, they could.

"Imagine if there's a little girl or boy in that class and they're feeling uncomfortable that they're into boys or girls or whatever that it can't be discussed openly. I thought in this day and age that would've been abolished and you would give them the proper talk.

This admission led to astonishment from her two co-presenters and Tommy in particular put his own scenario together.

What followed was what Tommy would do instead - with no sign of the video that every child in Ireland saw in primary school when it came to this sort of thing.
