RTE star Ryan Tubridy shows off Joe Biden gift as Donald Trump era quickly fades

Ryan Tubridy picked a clear side in the US political battle as he donned a Joe Biden-themed gift from the US Embassy in Ireland.

The RTE star shared a photo of the present on his Instagram today to mark President's Day.

The American holiday is traditionally celebrated on the third Monday of February to honour George Washington, although is now often used to celebrate all presidents.

And Tubs appeared happy to get in on the act thanks to a gift from the US embassy here, paying tribute to the new incumbent less than a month after he took over from former President Trump.

He wrote: "A Biden gift pack landed from the US embassy... Includes JB aviators, USA face mask and 'cup o' Joe' mug. All for President's Day."

Last month the Late Late Show host left little doubt about where he stands on the US political landscape with a subtle comment about former President Trump after his term officially came to an end.

Tubs addressed a comment by Dr Anthony Fauci, who served as Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases under Trump.

The medical expert often clashed with the then-President over the handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tubridy told listeners on his RTE Radio One show: "Anthony Fauci was out over the weekend and he was describing his presence in the White House under the Trump administration.

"They said 'you were kind of the stone in the shoe', and he said; 'I was the skunk at the picnic'. And that was a wonderful expression.

"He said he clashed with the President often but that he never considered resigning.

"He said; 'I felt if I stepped down, that would leave a void, and someone's got to not be afraid to speak out the truth'.

"That was a joke, it was a friendly joke he says, but he was the skunk at the picnic."

And Tubridy's true feelings slipped as he added: "So that's Anthony Fauci describing his experience in the Trump White House, but that has all changed, thankfully... And he's back in a better position now, good news."
