RTE star Ryan Tubridy shares surprise at Sarah McInerney lookalike admission

Ryan Tubridy was surprised to hear fellow RTE presenter Sarah McInerney was told that she looked like Queen guitarist Brian May.

Galway native McInerney, 40, was watching the Oscar-winning film Bohemian Rhapsody when she remembered that she had been told of her likeness to the English rocker.

She posted on Twitter: "Watching Bohemian Rhapsody on Netflix and remembering that time someone on Twitter told me I look like Brian May.

"I’d forgotten about it till now. I’m giggling through the whole movie."

Tubridy told listeners to his RTE Radio One programme: "Now, that's funny.

"Our friend and colleague Sarah McInerney sent out a tweet to say that she had been told she looked like Brian May.

"It's because she has big curly hair and great hair.

"This is about curly hair.

"I get (compared to ) Henry Kelly (Irish broadcaster) for the last twenty years, at least I've grown into it."

A woman related to Sarah's lookalike conundrum: "Curly hair problems. Everyone telling you that you look like any other curly-haired person in the world."

One woman responded to Sarah saying: "As a fellow curly and former blonde I was once told I looked like Chad Kroeger from Nickleback."

He moved on from that example to add generally: "If you think somebody looks like a person who is not attractive, it is best not to say it."

Another posted: "The guy who plays Brian May in the movie look more like Brian May than Brian May."

It comes as Tubridy has advised viewers of Michael Schumacher's new Netflix documentary to manage their expectations as it has received some poor reviews.

Seven-time world champion Schumacher has spent the last eight years recovering after hitting his head on a rock in a horror accident while skiing off-piste in the French Alps.

He has been cared for by wife Corinna and a medical team since being allowed to return home in 2014, but very little is known about the German racer's condition as his family is extremely guarded about details of his recovery.

RTE's Ryan Tubridy told listeners to his RTE Radio One show on Friday morning: "There is a documentary that they've been talking about a lot recently especially my gang upstairs who are big fans of Michael Schumacher and Formula One in general.

"Michael Schumacher has had a horrible time.

"Unfortunately, the documentary about him is out, and it has gotten a one-star review in one of the paper's this morning.

"I'm not sure but manage your expectations if you were looking forward to that."

However, some Irish viewers have said it is a remarkable documentary that gives an insight into the winning mentality, kindness and toughness of Michael Schumacher but doesn't shed much light on the accident or his current condition.

The documentary's co-producer Benjamin Seikel said the main purpose of the film was not to dwell on Schumacher's accident, but to depict the strength the family are showing.

"We said from the beginning that the accident should not be the centre of the film.

"We wanted to make a timeless documentary that doesn’t reflect the current events but shows how everybody is dealing with the circumstances. This can give strength to many people."

Nocker also described the cohesion of the family as "remarkable."
