RTE star Ryan Tubridy gives blunt opinion on Ireland's leaders after grim lockdown news

Ryan Tubridy has given his blunt opinion on Ireland's political leaders after more grim lockdown news.

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar confirmed on Thursday that the reopening of barbers and hairdressers will be “definitely be much later” than March 5.

And RTE star Tubs voiced his frustration with the "unending eternity" of lockdown and the lack of clarity from the Government.

He told listeners to his Radio One morning show: "Hairdressers might not be open until quote-on-quote 'much later' than March 5.

"Have you noticed how the language of lockdown has morphed into a great sense of unending eternity. Before it was six weeks, then it'll be reviewed, and now it's 'much later'.

"The Government has now become my parents in 1982, where they say: 'We'll see'.

"These are the words no boy or girl in Ireland ever wanted to be told by their parents, because it meant nothing. Can we go to McDonalds? We'll see.

"They didn't say no, but they definitely didn't say yes.

"Can we go and see Raiders of the Lost Ark on Saturday? We'll see. There's not a chance I was going to see Raiders of the Lost Ark on Saturday.

"Can we go to the barbers and the hairdressers in four weeks' time? We'll see.

"It's never going to happen.

"What about six weeks' time? It may be much later, we'll see.

An exasperated Tubs added: "Double down, why don't you."
