RTÉ radio presenter Ray D'Arcy took the day off work to celebrate his son's eighth birthday and he revealed he's 'disappointed' he didn't do it sooner.
While he was away co-worker Kathryn Thomas took over his slot so he could be free to help his son celebrate.
When back on air he explained why he was away and said his son had his whole day planned out and the entire family had 'great craic'.
He said: "Thank you very much to Kathryn, for keeping my chair warm yesterday.
"I was off celebrating my son's eight birthday I've never done that before.
"I've never taken a day off to help one of my children celebrate their birthday and I'm disappointed I didn't do it before.
"It's a brilliant idea if you can.
"If you can take a day off to be around for that very special day because they pass very quickly as we all know and when you're seven going on eight you're birthday is a huge thing in your life."
The presenter explained that he was glad he took the time off and was disappointed that he had never done it before.
Ray said: "It looms large for months and months beforehand and there are plans made from everything from breakfast to dinner and everything in between.
"Who's going to be there and of course things are restricted now with the lockdown but little cousin Ollie was there.
"Coco pops and pancakes for breakfast and McDonald's for dinner, just so you know."
