RTE star Miriam O'Callaghan confirms her salary as she addresses RTE payments scandal

RTE star Miriam O'Callaghan has confirmed her earnings to followers in a personal statement on social media.

The Prime Time host revealed she gets paid €263,500 and said that she has “never” gotten any other payments from the broadcaster. She also vowed to continue to cover the scandal following reports that The Late Late Show’s Ryan Tubridy was paid money by RTE which was not publicly declared.

In a statement shared on Twitter this evening, Miriam O'Callaghan said: "For the purpose of transparency, honesty and clarity, I want to put on the record that my most recently published fee from RTE - 263,500 euro - is correct, as are the published fees for previous years.

“I have never received additional payments from RTE that were not publicly declared.” She added that she has felt "incredibly sad" since news broke over the RTE payments scandal.

“I had no idea this was coming down the tracks. I feel you, our listeners and viewers, have been badly let down.” Miriam said that those that are employed at RTE who work very hard on the programmes, feel shocked by the recent news.

“I love RTE - it's a wonderful place to work, full of superb people who work very hard and conscientiously every day to deliver good programmes. Right now, there's profound shock, anger and sadness among everyone working there.

“All we can do as journalists now, is cover the story as rigorously as we cover every other story. That's what we did on Prime Time last Thursday, on the day the story first broke, and that is what we will continue to do.”
