RTE star Doireann Garrihy opens up on lockdown struggles as she mourns missing out on a 'normal life'

RTE star Doireann Garrihy has spoken candidly about struggling during lockdown as she told her social media followers "you're still allowed to mourn the little things".

The RTE 2FM presenter took to her Instagram stories this week to express her sadness at missing out on a "normal life" amid the strict restrictions in place due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

In the videos, Doireann can be seen lying on her bed as she tells her followers that she feels "lucky" not to be working on the front lines but that all she wants is to "be able to make plans" once again.

She said: "In all seriousness, I just reached a point yesterday, because you know the way you kind of hold yourself back a little bit from giving out or complaining because you're like, 'I'm not working on the front line, I am so lucky in so many ways,' but you're still allowed to mourn the little things, I think.

"I will probably get abused by someone but I actually don't care.

"Like abuse me all you want, I just want normal life, I just want to be able to make plans, I want to have things to look forward to.

"It's the not knowing."

The 28-year-old podcaster said that she was sharing the message with any of her followers who may also be struggling in lockdown, saying: "I'm not trying to drag people down.

"If you're having a good day get away from my stories. I just want you to know that if you feel like that, I feel like that."

Doireann, who was hospitalised last month after injuring her knee whilst filming the new series of her RTE show The Doireann Project, also shared a series of videos of her with her family during happier times before the pandemic hit.
