RTE star Blathnaid Treacy sets her sights on working in the UK

RTE presenter Blathnaid Treacy said she has her sights set on moving to the UK to work next year.

Despite fronting some of the most popular shows on both RTE and Virgin Media, the newly wed said there are better opportunities for her jazz musician hubby Charlie Moon across the pond too.

Launching Three’s MadeByMusic 2019 at Lost Lane yesterday, the 31-year-old told Irish Daily Mirror: “I’ve definitely got my sights set on the UK, it’s only just across the water and the jazz scene as well is much bigger over there than there is in Ireland so for the two of us it would definitely be on the cards.

“Well hopefully, we will see what happens.”

“The thing is, I have kind of been consistently working so there has never been a lull to do it.

“But maybe in the next year, it would be nice to dip the toe across the pond.

“Like i’ve got loads of pals over there, producers and casting directors and stuff like that and now they work in the fashion industry and not so much in the TV world.

“But yeah I’ve definitely got a network over there and loads of pals over there so, never say never.”

After a busy start to the year hosting RTE’s Can’t Stop Dancing, the 2FM presenter is back with Xpose for a second stint, covering for Glenda Gilson’s extended maternity leave this summer.

But seven years working in the field as a ‘freelancer’, Blathnaid admitted she has had to learn how to cope with the anxiety and worry that comes with the uncertain nature of the work.

She said: “So what I’ve learned to do is, because when you are filming a show you could be flat out for like seven weeks, and then you might have three weeks off but what i’ve learned to do is enjoy the downtime, not freak out about it.

“You know i’ve been working solidly seven years or something in the industry and I love what I do and it is so much fun but at the beginning it was hard to sort of get into the rhythm of it because everything chops and changes so I think with experience you learn not to let yourself get anxious.

“I definitely would have had a lot of anxiety at the beginning.

“There are so many ups and downs when you are doing it and your adrenaline is pumping and pumping and you could finish at 11pm at night.”

She added: “And when I’m stressed, anxiety, anxious that’s when the skin flares up but i’ve kind of learned to control that and not sweat the small stuff that happens.”

“Because you know the older you get, I’m 31 now, and in the last couple of years a close friend of mine passed away and it is kind of like what’s the point in worrying about silly stuff.

“Life is too short to be stressing about nothing.”
