RTE soccer pundit Didi Hamann pleads not guilty to assaulting girlfriend

RTE pundit Dietmar "Didi" Hamann has pleaded not guilty after being charged with assaulting his girlfriend in Australia.

The 45-year-old, who did not appear in court, was charged after allegedly pushed his girlfriend during an argument at a house in Sydney.

The former Liverpool star was released on bail following the alleged incident in the early hours of Friday, June 21.

The case was adjourned until December 12 after his lawyer entered the not guilty plea in Sydney on Thursday.

Hamann, who won 59 caps for Germany, remains subject to bail conditions.

The ex-footballer has been in Australia since last year on what is described as an "extended holiday".

Hamann played for Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League Final. He also featured in the Premier League for Newcastle and Manchester City, as well as winning 59 caps for his country.
