RTE's Sinead Kennedy feels she is a 'real life Clark Kent' and doesn't get recognised with glasses on

RTE’s Sinead Kennedy feels she is the real life Clark Kent admitting that she never gets recognised with her glasses on.

However, the popular TV presenter, who is best known for hosting Winning Streak with Marty Whelan on Saturdays, revealed fans flock to her on the street to get a glimpse of her unusual engagement ring.

The Co Cork-born broadcaster, 35, said: “Myself and my sister joke about me Clark Kenting it, exactly like Superman.

“How didn’t people cop it was him, I don’t know, as he looks exactly like Superman.

“But when I wear glasses, people don’t twig me at all, which is gas, because I look the exact same.

“If you meet me midweek, I’m not glam - I haven’t had a blow dry or I haven’t bothered to put on make-up.”

And as her hands are often shown in close up on screen due to the nature of the game show, Sinead said her jewellery attracts more public attention when she is out.

She told TV Now: “A few people say they recognise me through my engagement ring, that would be the thing that would give me away.

“The most important thing about Saturday night is whether or not their name is going to come out of the draw so there are constant close ups of my hands and my ring is distinctive, because it’s not a diamond, it’s blue tanzanite.

“I only met a woman at the train station the other morning who came up to me and I was like ‘oh my god, I’ve no make up on, my hair is a holy show and I’ve glasses on, how did she know it was me?’

“And she said 'I just knew it was you, I’ve always wanted to see your ring in real life'.

“It just goes to show how important it is that I make sure that I get my mani before a Saturday night!”

Reflecting on her recent documentary work with the late Laura Brennan, who passed away from cervical cancer in March, she said it was emotional but an incredible privilege to be a part of.

When asked if she would want to focus more on making documentaries in the future, Sinead, who produced the film This Is Me detailing Laura’s battle with cancer, said: “That’s a hard question, because I love both.

“There are two totally different sides to me in every aspect of my life.

“I absolutely adore making documentaries and I want to continue to do that with the doc unit, but I don’t feel like I’m finished presenting, if that makes sense.

She jokingly added: “Maybe with some botox I could last forever on the telly, but I’m really lucky in that I get to do both.
