RTE’s Sarah McInerney horrified after experiencing gruesome incident

RTE Radio One’s Sarah McInerney was horrified last night after experiencing a gruesome slug incident.

She stepped on a huge slug in her bare feet during the middle of the night in her house.

McInerney took to Twitter to share the disgusting horror story with her 65,000 followers.

She said: “Walked into the kitchen at 3am to get water, and STEPPED in my BARE FEET on the biggest slug I’ve ever seen.

“House strictly private," she joked.

The story received a big reaction from followers, with many sharing their similar experience.

Slugs have no bones or shells meaning they can squeeze through tiny cracks and get into your house.

They can also climb vertical surfaces and even travel upside down.

The common entry points for slugs to get indoors are under doors, through holes in the floor drilled for water or gas pipes, through joints in the wall, vents and holes for electrical wiring.

And here’s how you can keep slugs out of your home:

  • Use a torch in a darkened room to spot the dried trails from last nights’ invasion then follow them back to any entry points

  • Check for joints, holes and gaps along walls, around doors, pipes, vents and under cabinets

  • Seal gaps using expanding foam for larger gaps or silicone sealant for smaller cracks
