RTE 's Ryan Tubridy weighs in on Britney Spears controversy as star slams 'casual cruelty'

Ryan Tubridy is the latest person to weigh on the treatment of pop star Britney Spears following the release of a tell-all documentary.

The New York Times TV film 'Framing Britney Spears' caused a storm among viewers and fans of the star, as it examines her controlling relationship with her father as well as how she was perceived in the press and by the public.

Tubs revealed that he had watched the programme, and the RTE star didn't hold back as he shared his thoughts on the hard hitting documentary.

Tubs admitted that he initially "didn't know much about her" but was shocked by the "casual cruelty" she received throughout the years.

"I know that she was a very talented singer, and that she a bit of tabloid fodder that's kind of what I knew," he said.

"What I didn't know was how horrible people are about her.

"We are living in different times. They're improved but not completely better but certainly improved in terms of what you should and can say or do.

"I'm not talking about political correctness gone mad I'm just talking about being nice.

"The poor woman is living in this desperate gilded cage controlled by her father, that's the bottom line.

"It's a kinder class of documentary and she comes out of it very well as a very talented and good person who's stuck in life and stuck in a cage."
