RTE's Ryan Tubridy to throw huge birthday party for Bob Geldof on Late Late Show

Ryan Tubridy revealed Friday's Late Late Show will be a big party to celebrate Bob Geldof's milestone birthday.

The host said the special show will be a star-studded affair to celebrate The Boomtown Rats frontman, who was born in Dublin on October 5, 1951.

“We are going large on Friday night for a very special programme,” Tubridy said.

“We are going to have his family in the studio, some I've met and some I haven’t, and Boomtown Rats obviously will be there, and playing at least once, maybe twice, it is going to be a party.

“And you are going to know all the people we have in because they are all very famous.

“And a lot of people who can’t be there but want to be there have sent us messages and there's talks of Ringo Star, Van Morrison and Sting, and people who want to send their love.

“So it is going to be quite the hooley,” he added.

The top RTE host also revealed there’s only eight weeks until the Late Late Toy Show as he teased it will be ‘bigger’ and better than ever before.

The annual Christmas special usually airs on the last Friday in November, which falls on November 26 this year.

And Ryan said his countdown has already begun - as he gears up for two months of intense practice and preparations for the highly anticipated show.

Speaking on his radio show on Wednesday, he said: "The diary has been quiet the last 18 months or so but in the last few weeks we're starting to put scribbles in here and there.

“And my friends in the Toy Show office said to me 'it's starting'.

"Which means that the juggernaut is being turned on and the engines are starting to rumble and we can feel it getting bigger and bigger.

“And they said let's talk about the diary…”

“It's only eight weeks until the Toy Show! That's pretty scary," he said laughing.

Ryan traditionally starts the Toy Show's with a show stopping musical performance and he hinted that the 2021 edition will be no different.

He said: "I have a lot of dancing and singing to do and lessons and stuff.

“So I need to get going on that soon, because they've chosen particularly difficult tasks for me this year."
