RTE's Ryan Tubridy takes road trip to Cork to visit 'best friend' Adam King

Ryan Tubridy took a road trip to Cork to see his "best friend" Adam King after "nearly two years" of waiting.

The pair met back on the Late Late Toy Show in 2020 when little Adam, who has osteogenesis imperfecta, offered Ryan a virtual hug during the Covid pandemic. Two years later, the RTE host travelled from Dublin to spend a day with his dear friend.

Ryan said: "We have landed in Cork, and nearly two years ago I promised I would visit a little friend of mine and I couldn't for ages and ages, and it's going to happen today." He then posted a video of him scooping the eight-year-old up into his arms as his family stood outside their home to greet him. He said: "It took two years but we got there, coffee, cake and a hug from Adam."

Adam became an inspiration for so many people across the country and his family have been sharing his projects on Adam King Adventures on social media.

They said: "So great to see you today Ryan Tubridy - thanks so much for calling to see us on your trip to the People's Republic of Cork!" along with a group photo, with the family sitting outside their lovely home with Ryan.

Adam, his dad David, mam Fiona, and siblings Danny, Katie, Robert and baby Sarah are all in the picture.

They were delighted with the visit. They added: "Well we just had the best day ever today. Thank you SO much to Ryan @instatubridy for taking the time to call in to see Adam and the family today.

"Adam and Ryan have really become the best of pals since the @latelaterte #ToyShow and today was another wonderful reminder of that. There was cake, trampolines, swings, and chats about sport, history, life and all things good. We can neither confirm nor deny that Ryan vomited on the trampoline.

"A day that will live very long in the memory. Thank you Ryan and big hugs from all of us."
