RTE's Ryan Tubridy stunned as fan indicates that he'll 'miss lockdown'

Ryan Tubridy was left stunned after receiving a message from a listener who indicated that he'll miss the pandemic.

'Brian' messaged Ryan's RTE Radio One programme this morning and seemed to be having lockdown 'nostalgia'.

Tubs was stunned at the statement, saying: "How could anyone (miss it)?

"We're not even allowed to have a pint outside the pub with friends.

"We can have the plastic cups and stuff but we haven't got to the 7th of June - not that it's etched in my brain!"

Brian wrote into the show saying: "I was fortunate enough to get my Covid vaccine on Wednesday afternoon.

"The waiting areas had smiling faces and there was a great sense of anticipation in the air.

"However, once I got home and started to feel that the end of Covid was near, I started to experience what can only be described as a existential crisis.

"My mind tells me that we are going from the known Covid world to an unknown post Covid world.

"Will things return to what they were previously?"

Brian questioned if things were really that great before the pandemic began.

He added: "Meeting and hugging friends will be exciting but what about all the other stuff like career plans, traffic, career plans, making decisions and people.

"For the last 14 months we haven't had to deal with much of that.

"My recollection at the start of the pandemic was the sense that people were stopping, thinking about their lives and their priorities.

"Now the reassessment will take place and it will all be a challenge.

"I think I'm supposed to have learned something from all this but I don't think I have.

"Am I the only one?"

Ryan felt that Brian was right to wonder "but not to worry".

He added that we all have to have learned something over the past year since the pandemic began.

"We have to take the best bits but no, don't fall in love with lockdown," he said.

"It's not good, it wasn't good."
