RTE's Ryan Tubridy recalls horror Squid Game story as kid left with serious injuries

RTE's Ryan Tubridy warned parents and young people about the dangers of recreating the Netflix show's games.

Tubridy, who has not hidden his distaste for the global phenomenon, read out a story of how a youngster was left badly injured while trying to do a Squid Game inspired trend.

The boy was trying to make honeycomb so he could take part in the game where contestants carve out a shape without breaking any of the rest of the circle.

But it didn't go to plan at all, Tubs explained: "The Netflix show has inspired a new Netflix challenge called the 'Honeycomb challenge'.

"The beauty of having seen every episode of Squid Game is that I know exactly what that challenge is, you get a small piece of honeycomb and you have to, by whatever means necessary, carve the shape without damaging any other part.

"If you don't do it you get shot in the head. That's Squid Game rules but the rules in real life on TikTok are different.

"A 14-year-old lad in Australia tried to do this essentially and he tried a recipe to make honeycomb, now if you remember, making honeycomb is complicated.

"So he found this recipe on the internet where all great things happen and he decided he'd give it a go.

"And it exploded in the microwave and all the hot liquid burst out onto him at this ridiculous temperature, and that's not good.

"Burnt his hand, sugar and plastic melted together and ran down his knee to his shin and that stuck and continued to burn into his knee.

"According to his mother it went through to his nerves.

"My nerves are gone listening to that, so just be careful."
