RTE's Ryan Tubridy 'mocked' over Late Late Toy Show costume during secret filming

Ryan Tubridy said he was ‘mocked’ when he was spotted walking around decked out in work boots with a ladder on his back, during secret filming for the Late Late Toy Show.

Toy Show season is in full swing, with all eyes and ears on the popular host for any hints ahead of the highly anticipated annual show set to hit screens on Friday, November 26.

But it seems being RTE’s top star doesn’t exclude Tubridy from a fair share of slagging every now and again, as he revealed a recent stint filming in Ringsend in Dublin made him a laughing stock this week.

“I was mocked yesterday,” the star said, as he opened his RTE Radio One show on Tuesday.

Laughing, he went on: “I was filming last night in Ringsend, can’t really go into any detail, it is all part of the top secret nature of it.

“But one of the things I had to do was carry a very heavy ladder around the place for a little while.

“A wooden one, you know the one that comes out with two sides of it, just in case you think it was a cheapy... It was a big heavy one for effect.

“And oh my God, the laugh people got out of it, seeing me trying to carry a ladder.

“I carried it with great skill,” he said.

Ryan Tubridy said this year's Toy Show will be the 'biggest one to date' (PA)

“And I had to wear hiking kind of boots, and they said ‘Is that the first time you’ve ever had to wear work boots?’ and I said ‘excuse me, look at my hand, I've been working in construction for years’," he joked.

“Mockery was abound. But thanks to everyone who gave us a lovely welcome, we had a great time.”

As fans count down the days until the annual extravaganza, he added: “And you will know all about it in due course. But not today or tomorrow.”

It comes after the host teased listeners with other clues about the top secret Toy Show theme whilst he has been immersed in rehearsals and fittings in recent weeks.

Hyping up the show as preparations kicked off and audience tickets were announced last month, he declared: "This is the Toy Show time".

"I had to go and get fitted up for a new nose, Toy Show-wise," he added.

"And that's before I go and see Stuart to talk about the songs, two songs and to talk about dancing; two dances…

"And to talk about getting involved in some very special things that we're doing all around the show that involves filming a little bit here and a little bit there.”

Describing the show as having a "post-war fun" feel, he went on to say: “It's very special.”

“So you can expect something pretty, pretty crazy. I was going to use another word there but that would give it away..”
