RTE's Ryan Tubridy gave people a look around Aras An Uachtarain on Thursday as he interviewed the President for this week's Late Late Show.

The TV host was in the grounds to sit down with Michael D Higgins to discuss the President’s hopes for Ireland’s future ahead of his 80th birthday on Sunday.

Tubs gave his social media followers a snapshot of the outside of the Aras on Thursday, he said: "We've just landed at Aras An Uachtarain.

"It is a beautiful morning, as you can see, there are quite extensive grounds."

He joked about Michael D's new dog Misneach (Irish for courage): "This is what everyone wants to know, what is the new puppy like?

"This is Misneach. Apparently quite lively, quite bold and quite fun."

He posted on Instagram: "All the President’s dogs...Bród and his feisty friend, Misneach joined myself and President Higgins for a stroll after our interview earlier.

"President Higgins is 80 on Sunday and is in fine form as you’ll see tomorrow night. See you then.

"At this point, Bród eyeballed me and said, “I bet you’re really just here for the puppy...” so I assured him that all dogs are equal in my eyes. We got on fine after that."

Ryan told his listeners on his RTE Radio One programme this morning that Michael D is ' in such good form and his mental agility is unparalleled."

"He has an awful lot to say about the state of the nation.

"We talked briefly about his own backstory which is fascinating.

"What he has seen and done in his eight decades on this island.

"It'll be revelatory and enlightening and very interesting."

There will also be footage shown on the Late Late Show tonight of Michael D and Ryan Tubridy having a wander around the grounds of the Aras.

Tubridy was blown by Michael D Higgins' new dog Misneach, his size and 'lively' personality.

Dubliner Ryan added on Thursday that he feels like he is in ‘the worst film ever’ that never ends as the pandemic continues.

The Late Late Show host also poked fun at the Government’s vague timelines for reopenings, saying: “We will ‘ish’ our way through the next few months.”
