RTE's Ryan Tubridy in stitches as he tells hilarious dancing story from behind the scenes of the Toy Show

Ryan Tubridy had listeners in stitches this morning as he dropped a string of hints about this year's Late Late Toy Show, which will see singing and dancing "in a very, very interesting era".

The RTE star couldn't keep in the giggles in a dramatic recreation of his Toy Show rehearsals – featuring singing and dancing training that Tubs insisted is going "a bit better than last year".

He told fans: "For one of the dance and song numbers, which I wasn't expecting, they said: 'It's Covid. You've gotta do this.'

"I said: 'I can't. I don't know how to.'

"They said: 'No. Your country needs you. Go and dance.'

"Away I went, back in time, to a very very interesting era, that was right up my street. And yeah – I'll leave it at that."

The 47-year-old promised to reveal more details about the show – which has the whole country in a state of fevered excitement – on radio next week.

And he marvelled at the popularity of the Penneys Toy Show pyjamas, which the retail giant is donating to sick and vulnerable children all over the country.

The exclusive Toy Show pjs are a staple of the big night for many kids, and Penneys has donated over 50,000 pairs to a number of charities and DEIS schools.

Tubs – who admitted he never had Toy Show pyjamas growing up – is also giving away a number of sets to members of the public, and fielded a number of heartwarming calls this morning.

He spoke to a woman recovering from Covid-19, who wants to send over a few sets to her nieces and nephews in Italy ahead of next Friday.

And Tubs was left stunned by the bravery of a Dublin mother whose 15-year-old daughter has a number of health conditions and has had a rough time of it over the course of lockdown.

We'll see what he can deliver on the Toy Show next week. One thing's for sure: we'll all be tuning in.
