RTE's Ryan Tubridy first TV appearance as a teenager goes viral with fans in disbelief at young Late Late host

Ryan Tubridy is one of the most prominent members of the Irish media.

The 47-year-old broadcaster has been on Irish airwaves for years and is one of RTE's most prolific presenters.

Tubridy has been a TV darling for years first hosting his popular Saturday night chat show Tubridy tonight before eventually taking the helm of the coveted Friday night spot as host of the Late Late Show.

His RTE Radio One show each week also garners a massive audience each week.

It can be hard to imagine there was once a time when Tubs was not always an Irish household name.

But the TV star has always worked hard to break into the industry since he was young.

It seems Ryan was always destined for a career in media, as at just 12-years-old, Ryan was reviewing books for the RTE 2FM show Poporama for which he earned a small fee per appearance.

In 1989, Tubs appeared on RTE children's show Scratch Saturday at the age of 16. The young Dubliner was invited on the programme, which ran from the late 80s into the 90s, to discuss three books about U2.

The clip has resurfaced on TikTok and RTE viewers could not believe their eyes at the young presenter at the start of his massive career.

Ryan is impressively confident as appears on the show and describes the "three distinct types of U2 fan".

He doesn't hold back as explains the shortcomings of the books, calling one of them "one of the most boring books ever written".

Ryan tells presenter Andy Ruane: "This is a book full of only cartoons, which traces the U2 story from the very beginning. You'd really want to be quite over the hill to enjoy the humour because it's not terribly funny for my sort of age group."

One user wrote: "Can we please talk about how well spoken Ryan was and still is."

Another wrote: "It shows from a young he does so much for the country especially with children.

And a third said: "He's like one of the kids on the Toy Show."
