RTE’s Ryan Tubridy confirms step back from radio and reveals his replacement

RTE favourite Ryan Tubridy has revealed that he is taking a break from his radio show.

The broadcaster slipped the news of his temporary departure from The Ryan Tubridy show in during the last few seconds on-air on Friday.

He also announced that comedian Oliver Callan will step in to fill his shoes for the time being.

Oliver has regularly taken over for Ryan in his absence and was a major hit with listeners during the summer when the Late Late Show presenter went on holiday.

He had a kind request for listeners though as he wants them to watch out for Oliver during the week.

Ryan said: “Oliver will be in for you next week, keep an eye on him and he’ll keep an eye on you.”

A spokesperson for RTE told RSVP Live: "Oliver Callan will be covering The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTÉ Radio 1 next week. Ryan will return on 1st November. Ryan will present The Late Late Show as normal next Friday 29th October."

Oliver has been a fixture on Ryan’s radio show since he took over from Gerry Ryan.

The impressionist performed on both programmes with his segment called Nob Nation.
