RTE's Reeling in the Years boss shares update on 2010s series and full list of topics

The boss of RTE's Reeling in the Years has shared an update on the new 2010s series.

The hugely popular show last released new episodes ten years ago, covering the ten years up to 2009.

And producer John O'Regan has said that the new series cataloguing the last decade is not due to be broadcast until 2021.

He told Ryan Tubridy on RTE Radio One: "It's going to be a while. We're just starting on that.

"It's not supposed to be on the air until next year and we're just starting the production process now.

"We've had our own Covid delays and disruption like many places, but like I say we're gathering footage."

And Mr O'Regan gave a full list of topics that are expected to feature in the new series, although he stressed that production is still at an early stage.

He added: "At the moment we are concentrating on the early years, so top of the list would be Katie Taylor, the London Olympics, the bailout in 2010, the Troika coming in, the referendum on same sex marriage.

"You've got Brexit, Love/Hate on the telly, Mrs Brown's Boys, the MeToo movement, Black Lives Matter, Garth Brooks coming to play Croke Park, or not.

"You've got the commemorations for 1916 in 2016, people like Maurice McCabe, Emma Mhic Mhathúna, Hozier, Kodaline, Imelda May, Dermot Kennedy, Nathan Carter Wagon Wheel, Rubberbandits, the Pope coming to Ireland, Savita Halappanavar, the Water Charges protests.

"You've got the women's hockey World Cup Final with Ireland in that, Teresa Mannion, the O'Donovan brothers at the Rio Olympics, Kilkenny hurling, Shane Lowry, the Young Offenders, remember the Ice Bucket Challenge and Pokemon Go.

"You've got the Beast from the East, Steve Jobs, the migration crisis in the Mediterranean, the civil war in Syria, and well I could keep going, but it's all a jumble. The task is to sort all that."
