RTE's Late Late Show airs touching message to Christy Dignam amid health battle

The latest episode of RTE's Late Late Show featured an outpouring of support for Christy Dignam following his sad health update.

Christy's family recently confirmed that the singer was receiving palliative care at his Dublin home. The 62-year-old has been battling amyloidosis, a rare blood disease, for several years,

Ryan Tubridy paid tribute to the Aslan star on Friday night's show, describing him as the "real deal" and one of life's gentlemen. He praised Christy for his talent and admirable spirit.

Ryan told the RTE audience: "We followed him and his battle to overcome illness over the years. When he's here, we just enjoy it. Something beautiful always happens."

The Late Late Show host added: "It's real and it comes from the heart. We just thought we wanted to send him the love from all of us."

The show also aired a heartwarming clip of Christy performing one of his most iconic hits, 'Crazy World.' Aslan was featured in an episode of the Late Late Show as recently as early 2022, in a charity special following the outbreak of war in Ukraine.

Several Twitter users applauded the gesture and wished Christy and his family well.

One user wrote: "What a beautiful tribute to one of life's stars."

Another fan commented: "Love Christy, there will never be another one! One of the most down-to-earth people and a ball of fun."

Aslan has cancelled all its gigs until further notice following the heartbreaking news. Christy's daughter Keira spoke out in recent days to thank people for their support.

She told her followers on social media that people's kind-hearted messages had given her father a "real boost" at a challenging time.
