RTE's Joe Duffy left unimpressed with major change to Liveline after new rule

Joe Duffy has been left looking unimpressed after a major change to Liveline in recent weeks.

1850 715 815 was the show's number going back through the years, with many people opting to call Joe instead of the Gardaí on some occasions.

However, that number is no more.

A decision was made last year by the communication sector regulator, ComReg. to scrap phone numbers beginning with 1850, 1890, and 076.

So, if you want to air your grievances, you must now call 0818 715 815.

People first noticed the change in December.

One person tweeted: "The #Liveline number is changing?! Is nothing sacred?"

"That new phone number of @joeliveline just sounds wrong" added a second.

And now the host himself has got involved, with a tongue-in-cheek tweet plugging the new line.

This left one person to cleverly reply in the comments, asking "Can I contact #LiveLine to complain about this change Joe? I'm too much of an 1850 715 815 traditionalist to let this drop."

Joe has been in charge of Liveline since 1999, after taking over from Marian Finucane and Doireann Ní Bhrian.

He has been criticised in the past for being one of RTÉ's highest wage-earners, though Liveline itself has tackled some big issues over the years.
