RTE's Hector will be swapping Irish for Spanish language courses in Kildare

Entitled 'Spiddalsborough', this week's episode of the The Tommy, Hector & Laurita Podcast saw Hector announce that he will be working with Euro Language College (ELC) to promote Spanish, French and German languages.

"It's like the Gaeltacht for global languages," he said on this week's podcast.

"There is a lot of adventure and there is a lot of Spanish in it."

Hector recounted that he had a meeting in Clongowes Wood College in Co Kildare, to look at the facilities for the ELC to use them as summer language courses, similar to the Irish language courses in the Gaeltacht areas around Ireland.

'People will go to Kildare to learn Spanish, French and German, I think it's brilliant." Hector laughed.

Although co-presenter Tommy Tiernan was not impressed with the news.

"I thought half the craic about learning Spanish in secondary school was you got maybe a few months in Spain as part of it," Tiernan said.

"Not get train to Portarlington and the mini-bus to Clane, where's the f****** craic in that?"

When pressed on what role he would play with the language courses, Hector launched into an exam style monologue with an impressive Spanish accent, before confirming that he hasn't put pen to paper.

Hector said he imagines that he will be an ambassador for the ELC in some capacity.

"I do like the idea of promoting Spanish, and the other languages, but Spanish is booming all over the world, and I really think it's a language that teenagers and more and more secondary schools have been given the opportunity to study."

"You can call me an advocate, an ambassador, I'm here to promote the role of these languages."

Hector was also kept busy filming with Ireland's only Mariachi band in Poolbeg, which Tiernan described as "the Spanish Clancy brothers."
