RTE's Fergal Bowers sends message after trolls target well-known journalist

RTE's Fergal Bowers thanked people for their "kindness" on social media after he was bombarded with anti-Covid hate over the weekend.

The health correspondent has been receiving some backlash on Twitter for delivering the latest Covid news which some users don't agree with.

But Bowers thanked people for their support and said he wasn't unduly bothered by the anonymous haters.

He tweeted: "The flood of kindness tonight is quite amazing on social media. And as we all know, there can be a lot of unkind poorly-informed commentary too. Stay strong, good people."

Meanwhile, Fergal's RTE colleague George Lee will not be Irish TV screens reporting from COP26 in Glasgow this week after undergoing an operation.

George tweeted on Friday: "Unfortunately I am unable to travel to Glasgow to report from the COP26 Climate Conference starting this weekend. Had emergency back surgery last week. Enormously grateful to wonderful surgeons at the Mater Hospital. Thankfully I am recovering now and all is well."
