RTE’s Doireann Garrihy said she’s a ‘sensitive soul’ and admitted that whilst she’s famed for her celebrity impressions, she’d hate it if someone impersonated her.
The radio and TV presenter is well known for her comical impressions of the likes of Maura Higgins, Suzanne Jackson, Pippa O’Connor, and Roz Purcell.
She even bagged her own RTE skit show, called The Doireann Project, dedicated to her catalogue of characters.
But described by her loved ones as ‘a sensitive soul’, the 2fm presenter said realised recently she’d hate it if the shoe was ever on the other foot.
Speaking on RTE Radio 1 with Marty Morrissey on Monday, Doireann’s sister Aoibhin said:
“Doireann is bubbly and hilarious, and she’s the entertainer but she is a real sensitive soul too. We often slag her that she can give it but she can’t take it."
In full agreement, Doireann replied: “Yeah, I think I probably am.
“I didn’t really notice it until recent years. Like I would do impressions of you know Roz Purcell or Maura Higgins or whoever it might be.
“And sometimes I do go ‘how would I actually feel if it was done to me’, and so I actually asked Mario Rosenstock when I was talking to him, and he goes ‘oh no I wouldn’t like it either’.
“Well able to lash it out and have the craic but if it comes my way I’m like ‘but what about my feelings’, she laughed.
The 29-year-old went on: “There you go, I can give it but I can’t take it.”
Doireann previously revealed that she doesn’t ask her subjects’ permission before impersonating them saying: “Negative, I do not do that. Ah where’s the craic in that come on!”
