RTE's Des Cahill tells sad reason why 'Up for the Match' won't be on this year ahead of All-Ireland hurling final

The traditional "Up for the Match" program on RTE before All-Ireland finals won't be going ahead this year.

Waterford and Limerick will battle it out for the Liam MacCarthy Cup on Sunday but the night before won't be quite the same.

RTE's Des Cahill, the usual host, told Claire Byrne on Radio One today that the program, which has become a big part of many people's All-Ireland weekend, won't be on.

Des said: "Up for the Match is not on this time for the first time in 60 years or so because there's no one coming up for the match."

Those looking for some Saturday night GAA action will however be able to see the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship final from 7pm instead.

Galway and Kilkenny go toe-to-toe in Croke Park in that one with Evanne Ní Chuilinn presenting coverage live on RTE.

The Sunday Game on RTE will then kick-off at 12:30pm with the Joe McDonagh Cup taking centre stage first with a 1pm throw-in for Antrim v Kerry.

Then it'll be all eyes on the men of Limerick and Waterford with a throw-in of 3:30pm for the All-Ireland final decider.
